DISC SHARK® – The New Brake Disc Era

After the prototype could already celebrate success in the UCI DH World Cup Series 2021, the high-end brake disc addressed to demanding Gravity riders is now available for all Downhill and Enduro enthusiasts. To create an optimal design geometry and achieve the best possible performance, the high-quality disc is made of stainless steel using an innovative laser cutting process.

One of the most striking features are the internal fins, which are reminiscent of shark fins and give the brake disc so its name. In combination with the small round holes inside the rotor, these allow the operating temperature to be lowered. In contrast, the already proven Wave design, which is characteristic of the exterior of the brake disc, in combination with the lateral openings, ensures a strong and homogeneous grip over the entire contact surface of the brake pads.

HIGHER BRAKING POWER | The special design of the Disc Shark® rotor reduces the pressure in the brake hose even under the most difficult conditions, so that less force is required when applying the brakes. Under normal conditions, this means a 5 to 10 % increase in braking performance.

MORE STABILITY | Even under the most adverse thermal conditions – steep gradients, high speeds, high ambient temperature and large mass – the Shark® rotor maintains stable and consistent braking performance at all times. To achieve appropriate stiffness for each model, its structural design adapts to different disc diameters.

LOWER OPERATING TEMPERATURE | The single-piece design of Galfer's Shark® brake disc not only increases strength, but also dramatically reduces operating temperature – by up to 30 %.

LONGER BRAKE PAD LIFE | Designed to reduce operating temperature, the Shark® Fixed rotor also has a positive effect on brake pad wear. In practice, this means a 25 to 40 % increase in service life.

LIGHTER WEIGHT | The optimized design – of both the rotor and the hub mount – reduces weight to a significant degree, allowing the Disc Shark® to easily compete with any other high-end brake disc.
