Newcastle Cyclocross Rnd #1

IT is so good to see something live up to the hype! The first round of the Newcastle Cyclocross series was so well received that the two guys behind the launching the idea, Shannon Lister and our own Adam Freeman got matching stomach tattoo’s of a set of muddy drop bars. In Adam’s own words he was brought on board by Shannon to make sure the event didn’t become a dusty tired road ride in the park. Instead it was a mud pit slipping, beer frothing, sausage sizzling, coffee flowing, beat pumping, two wheeled fever fetching funday.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE NEXT ONE.
As a spectator, a rider or a helper you cannot fail to have fun at this type of event. Division 2 was a tight race the whole way through, with 4 very evenly matched riders together almost the entire race. In the end, Peter Butler (on a regular road bike with slicks and all) took home the bacon over Anthony Lloyd - Jones in 2nd.
Garry Milburn won the Division 1 race in an electric finish over another Sydney rider Nick "Mick Booth" Both, with our very own Trenton Day in 3rd place - an impressive result seeing as Trenton hasn't raced for 6 months as he's been off playing congas on The Beach Boy's world tour. A special mention must go out to local rider, Stu Adams - the ageless viking, placing an impressive 4th place over riders young enough to be his neighbour.
