What is your preferred cycling discipline?
o Triathlon Time Trialling and road cycling. But now I have the Venge Vias I will be doing a few more road races and short course triathlon events.
In your own words tell us a little about your current riding ambitions for the year ahead.
o I want to be the fastest female triathlete on the bike, so I will be focusing on improving my sustainable power. Also, I am entering in my first cross triathlon, which involves mountain bike riding. I am keen to try mountain bike riding and improve my skills in this.
Tell us what a typical week in the shoes of Holly involves.
o I qualified as a professional triathlete in November 2015. So I have taken this sport on as a full time athlete, training up to 30 hours a week, and making sure I fit in all the other important things. I train with Pete Mauro from TSO triathlon squad so I am with this group daily. I am a sport specialist podiatrist and own my own practice, Central Podiatry. So I keep busy managing this business, mentoring podiatrists and treating athletes.
What is your best result so far?
o Sunshine Coast Ironman 70.3 2015. I raced this as an age grouper and placed 2nd. But I out-road all the female pro field, riding the 90km in 2hr 20min and then ran my 21.1km with a 10min PB. I was on a high for a few weeks after that race!
What has been your favourite event you’ve competed in and why?
The Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2014 in Mont Tremblant, Canada. It was a spectacular location and the biggest event I have ever raced in. I was surrounded by world class athletes, raced along side them and I had a perfect race! I didn't get the placing I would have liked (23rd), but had a big PB.
What is your favourite item of riding equipment and why?
Power meter. I love to see stats, train specifically, race smart and gauge my improvements.
Where is your favourite place to ride in the local area and why?
Martinesville and Mandalong is in my backyard and are my local and favourite places to train. The roads are quiet and surrounded by beautiful bushland, and have long flats, rolling hills and big hill climbs, like the Wategan Mountain 4km climb.
Why is Drift Bikes and Specialized a good match for you?
Specialized has always appealed to me as the best brand and styled bikes ever since my Dad bought me a Specialized mountain bike when I was 11. I was so thrilled when my husband surprised me with my Shiv last year because it was my dream bike. So naturally I found myself in Drift meeting all the crew and experiencing first hand, their professionalism with the Specialized bikes and products. Its been a thrilling ride (no pun intended) so far and i'm looking forward to our future friendship!
